Pentland Hills Parking Charges

I have been vocal on the issue of introducing parking charges in the Pentland Hills Regional Park car parks. The Joint Committee met in January 2026 to vote on introducing charges and this was ratified by the Council.

I did not support this approach but if other political parties are intent on going ahead with charging residents, the costs should be kept as low as possible. I was grateful that my Scottish Conservative colleagues on Edinburgh Council's Transport and Environment Committee submitted an amendment which would have reduced the cost of parking permits.

Sadly, the SNP, Labour, Lib Dems, and Greens voted against the Scottish Conservative proposal.

I did and I do not support charging residents to access this very valued public greenspace on the edge of Edinburgh. It provides beautiful, open space for all to enjoy as and when they like.

There is still the statutory process through which residents can object. It is called a Traffic Regulation Order and will be published later in 2026.
